Solyndra Fallout
Via Tina Kobe at Hot Air the take home messages from this developing scandal are as follows:
- The administration fast-tracked a $535 million loan to Solyndra.
- Major Solyndra investors were often also major Obama donors.
- Solyndra declared bankruptcy, despite apparently making it appear to the administration as recently as July that the company’s finances were fine.
This pay to play scheme not only violates basic economic principles, it taints the reputation of all green businesses legitimately competing within an energy marketplace. A quick look at my “Where I Stand” page reveals my support for green energy technology along with every other source of energy known to man. I’ve no problem with solar energy being a viable choice for consumers. If evidence comes to light that this Administration was using undue political influence to ‘pick a winner’ in the green energy market, it is an egregious break of faith with the citizens of this nation and damaging to other green energy companies across the nation.
This weekend I attended a Fall Harvest Festival organized by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), while there I picked up a gardening award and stopped to chat with a local vendor of solar panel systems. The subject of Solyndra did not come up, but the sales pitch was quite informative. Local companies, Sunpower and Heat Shed, are competing against a near monopoly called PECO. The representative framed the use of solar power within a urban environment as a cost saving measure, not a replacement of local power from PECO. This is the reality solar power in a large metropolitan cities. Solar power will not replace traditional means of power, but it will reduce consumers electricity costs.
I went online to sunpower corporation and received a free estimate of a solar panel installation package for my home. After state and federal rebates the estimated cost came to $22,000. The cost of solar power is still quite pricey for the average consumer. Government meddling ala Solyndra does not help this green industry find the cost point that will induce consumers to buy enmass.
Irene-idiocy
I was waiting for the ‘canoe moment’ but this is far, far worse:
Embedding the video is proving impossible. Click here to see the report.
The sludge covering this intrepid (?) reporter is potentially composed of raw sewage, he notes it doesn’t taste great. Hope his vaccines are up to date.
How do you go about nominating a person for the Darwin Award? I think I have a winner here.
Irene Meets Intrepid Reporters Creating Comedy Gold
Via Daily Mail:
With Irene approaching, viewers will be treated to asshats ‘reporting’ on what how strong the winds are or how much destruction is being caused by hurricane winds. The Daily Mail provides a clip of some of the silliest moments in reporting history:
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
If they actually listened to this guy, we won’t have to suffer through hours of reporting on high winds and flying debris. For some inexplicable reason they just don’t want to listen to him:
With all the buildup of flooding, I’m waiting for a newsie to report on the scene in her canoe:
Pseudo Environmentalist Derailed at CPAC
Ann McElhinney, director and producer of “Not Evil Just Wrong“, schools a critic on his misguided ideas regarding the oil and gas industry while calling out his own environmental hypocrisy at the 2011 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Ann…for the record…you rock.
For the sake of transparency, I will disclose that I traveled to CPAC via Amtrak and DC Metro. In addition, I walked to the conference from a nearby Bed and Breakfast.
Solstice Lunar Eclipse – Photo Update
The first day of winter this year will be one for the history books. A lunar eclipse will mark winter solstice, a rare occurrence, the previous eclipse happened in 1638, three hundred and seventy two years ago.
NASA has an informative web page giving you the what, where, when and how information about this noteworthy event:
The eclipse begins on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21st, at 1:33 am EST (Monday, Dec. 20th, at 10:33 pm PST). At that time, Earth’s shadow will appear as a dark-red bite at the edge of the lunar disk. It takes about an hour for the “bite” to expand and swallow the entire Moon. Totality commences at 02:41 am EST (11:41 pm PST) and lasts for 72 minutes.
If you’re planning to dash out for only one quick look – it is December, after all – choose this moment: 03:17 am EST (17 minutes past midnight PST). That’s when the Moon will be in deepest shadow, displaying the most fantastic shades of coppery red.
Set my alarm for 2:45 am.
Ta-Da!!!
Quick, Hide The Decline!
December 2010:
Weather forecasters in Britain are speculating this December will be the coldest since 1910. Several inches of snow have blanketed Britain all the while stranding travelers and delighting children. Their cousins on the other side of the pond have been dealing with a spectrum of weather related issues from roof caving snow storms to torrential flooding.
Hey People Help Save The Environment – Blow Up Kids!
Check out this video created by Richard Curtis for the 10:10 campaign. What is the 10:10 campaign? If you have time to waste, here you can read about their use of eco-propaganda in support of anthropogenic global warming.
This is the radical environmental movement’s version of the Final Solution. If you don’t go along with anthropogenic global warming, you will be exterminated. If James J Lee were still alive, I strongly suspect he would be a big supporter of this film. His manifesto contains striking similarities to this film.
James Delingpole rips the mask off of the environmental movement:
With No Pressure, the environmental movement has revealed the snarling, wicked, homicidal misanthropy beneath its cloak of gentle, bunny-hugging righteousness.
This is the result of conservatives ceding ground in the environmental debate to rabid liberalism. Responsible stewardship of the environment is a conservative principle, why did we hand this fundamental value over to distortion by liberals?
Sadly, the liberal stance on this video is to stick their head in the sand and deny the exploding of children, coworkers, athletes and media types who don’t tow the line on anthropogenic global warming is relevant to the message communicated by the video and the 10:10 organization. Oops folks, move along, nothing to see here. This is the same closed logic that condemned Galileo and Copernicus many moons ago.
Dedicated Environmentalist Killed in Hostage Standoff
The humans? The planet does not need humans – J. Lee
James Jay Lee died today. He was shot to death by police ending a dramatic hostage situation at the Discovery Communications in Silver Springs.
His hostage attempt was meant to spur the Discovery Channel to be more proactive in anti-human environmentalism. His inspiration: Al Gore’s Nobel prize winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. Clearly this man was troubled, did not get the help he desperately needed and ended up losing his life today.
Obama’s Oil Based Speech
Tomorrow, Obama will finally address the nation on the status of the oil disaster in the Gulf. It’s only been 56 days since the explosion of the BP oil rig. This is a time for leadership, not pass-the-buckmanship.
Good Lord, the same liberal neophytes excoriated President Bush for a 6 minute delay during 9/11, yet they are curiously silent on this epic disaster. Just think of the outrage if President Bush dithered about for 56 days before addressing the nation after 9/11?
In advance of this speech, I’ve created a poll to see what talking points will be shared with the American public. Not holding my breath for any solid action plan to be revealed:
The Bitter American tells it like it is – Obama, Talk is Cheap. Love this blog!
Philly Snowpocalypse 2010
