2012 SheRox Triathlon Philadelphia

New Running Shoes

I so excited! this weekend I registered for the 2012 SheROX Sprint Triathlon.  The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 5th 2012 in beautiful Philadelphia.

What is a sprint triathlon?  It is a shorter distance Triathlon which covers a quarter of the distance of a full Triathlon. Consider it a starter Triathlon with distances of:  .6K (.37 mile) swim, 25K (15.5 mile) bike, 5K (3.1 mile) run . SheRox Triathlon series are held across the country and they are the fastest growing women’s triathlon series in the country.

This video gives a great preview of what a SheRox triathlon is all about:

SheRox Triathlon – Bermuda from Burnt House Productions on Vimeo.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I’d take on this race, as my race dance card is quite full for this year.  I’ve added cross training in addition to running in preparation for the upcoming Broad Street 10 Miler and Oddyssey Half Marathon.  I’d like to continue with this training – with the addition of swimming and bicycling.  A date with a triathlon is precisely the carrot needed to motivate me through the spring and summer.

So far, I’ve dusted off my bicycle – an awesome, yet seldom used, Trek hybrid and plan to have it tuned up at Guy Bicycles. I live within a mile of two gyms with 25 meter pools and I’m registered to train with Team Philly for the upcoming Broad Street run.

The triathlon occurs right before Team Philly marathon training officially starts. At that point, with the grace God, I’ll have Broad Street, a half marathon and a triathlon completed before I begin training in earnest for the Philadelphia Marathon.

It is all about chasing 26.2.

Now to figure out what brick training is all about…

PAGOP Endorses Arlen Specter, Jr – Steve Welch

Deconstructed Plane - Lenfest Plaza

Lifelong Democrat, recently registered Republican, Steve Welch, has garnered the PA GOP endorsement for the Republican Senate Candidate.

As a republican committeewoman, I cannot support this endorsement. I will be voting in April for anyone other than Welch and advising my constituents to do the same.

Chris Friend summarized this losing endorsement:

Incomprehensibly, but not surprisingly, certain factions within the GOP leadership are pushing to endorse Montgomery County’s Steve Welch, a candidate who:

A) Became a Democrat because the GOP wasn’t conservative enough,

B) Financially supported (former) Congressman Joe Sestak, one of the most liberal members of Congress, and

C) Voted for Barack Obama in 2008.

Actually, Welch became a Democrat in reaction to Katrina. Silly, I know, but that is the character of Steve Welch – in black and white.

Specter Jr? I believe so.  Read the facts and vote accordingly in April.

UPDATE: Specter of Sestak haunts Welch. This nomination is a train wreck.

KT Tunstall – Black Horse and a Cherry Tree

Love.this.song.

Well my heart knows me better than I know myself
So I’m gonna let it do all the talking.
I came across a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.

I felt a little fear upon my back
He said “Don’t look back, just keep on walking.”
When the big black horse said, “Hey lady!” {When the big black horse said, “Look this way”}
Said, “Look this way, will you marry me?” {Said, “Hey, lady, will you marry me?”}

Why I Run

Photobucket

9am Sunday morning with a temperature hovering around 19 degrees and ice patches covering the running trail, three friends met for 5K run on Kelly Drive .  Pinkie graciously snapped the photo above of  Trish and I donning baklavas and NYC hats just prior to starting off on the run. Yes, baklavas are necessary for running in freezing temperatures. Thanks Trish for allowing me post this fabulous photo 🙂

Why would anyone get up early in the middle of January to run through snow and ice in freezing temperatures?  Yes, I do get asked that question quite often.  Simply put, why do I run?

Daytrip To New York City

Went to NYC with every intention to take in the photography of Vivian Maier at the Greenberg Gallery. However, NYC got in the way and Trish and I spent the day channeling our inner Vivian Maier with some NYC street photography.

Here are the results of the impromptu photowalk:
