Jury Delivers Justice to David Nam
January 29, 2010 – a Philadelphia jury found David Nam guilty of 2nd degree murder regarding the death of Anthony Schroeder in August 1996.
It may have been delayed, but justice was served today.
The Philadelphia Common Pleas Court jury deliberated about three hours after hearing closing arguments this morning from the prosecution and defense attorneys.
A conviction of second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without chance of parole.
Nam, 32, was extradited in 2008 from South Korea – where he fled in March 1998 after being released on $1 million bail – to face trial in the Aug. 16, 1996 shooting of Anthony Schroeder, 77, during a botched home invasion at Schroeder’s house at Fourth Street and Olney Avenue
Man Friday – Tim Tebow
Okay, I admit it has been years since I last updated Man Friday on MidnightBlue. All I can say is shame on me! Well, I’ve certainly picked a good one to restart Man Friday on MidnightBlue:
Tebow, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for the University of Florida, and his mother Pam will appear in a pro-life commercial that tells the story of his risky birth 22 years ago
The 30-second spot, paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, is expected to recount the story of Pam Tebow’s turbulent pregnancy in 1987:
When Tebow suffered from a dangerous infection during a mission trip to the Philippines, doctors recommended that she terminate her pregnancy, fearing she might die in childbirth. But she carried Tim to term, and he went on to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy and guide the Florida Gators to two BCS championships.
It’s a happy story with an inspirational ending, but pro-choice critics say Focus on the Family should not be allowed to air the commercial because it advocates on behalf of a divisive issue and threatens to “throw women under the bus.”
There is something sexy about a man who stands up for his beliefs with honesty and integrity.

Astroturfing By Ellie Light
A rather mysterious person submitted the exact same letter to the editor (LTE) for publication in dozens of newspapers across the nation. Locally, the Northeast Times and Philly Daily News printed this LTE. I know from experience that one must a identify a neighborhood when submitting an LTE to the Northeast Times. Was it an innocent oversight or an intentional act on the part of the editors? It’s not quite spring, yet one can smell the astroturf!
Air America Folds
If a progressive radio station ceases operations and declares bankruptcy, will anyone hear it?
It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.
The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America’s business. This past year has seen a “perfect storm” in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry’s long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing time
A Peek at Apple iSlate
A real geek out moment:
When Apple finally takes the wraps off its long-anticipated tablet next Wednesday, the device will strike a familiar chord with owners of the original iPhone, with similarities in industrial design trickling all the way down to the handset’s button and connectivity components, AppleInsider has learned.
A Flickr user, Fotoboer.NL, created at rendition of the iSlate that sources close to the project say most closely resembles the iSlate/
The Palin Factor
Recall all those delusional folks who claimed Sarah Palin brought down McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign?
Turns out they were wrong.
Via Breitbart:
Sarah Palin and Sen. John McCain plan to campaign together again. The Arizona Republican announced Wednesday that the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate will join McCain in Phoenix on March 26 to help campaign for his re-election to the U.S. Senate.
It seems McCain knows a winner – I predict a win for McCain.
