Operation Baghdad Pups
Buster is happy dog!
He was rescued from certain death on a busy highway in Philadelphia and adopted into a loving family.
There is a joy in bringing a rescue into your home – knowing you have made a positive impact in the life of a dog. It can be a challenge as well, trying to decipher all his quirks and mannerisms. I still don’t know why Buster insists on putting his paw on my foot when I’m sitting down. Still, his previous owner’s carelessness have been my gift – I couldn’t image him not being part of the family.
Another reason for Buster to smile – other dogs in peril are being rescued and brought to loving forever homes in the US.
The organization began with a desperate email in 2007 from a soldier hoping for assistance in rescuing a dog that had bonded with US soldiers. Working with SPCA International, Operation Baghdad Pups coordinates the rescues of dogs and cats befriended by US troops. It is a daunting, expensive task but priceless for the lives it saves. SPCA International can use your support – donate HERE. This Ain’t Hell (TAH) details the rescue of Maj Hutchinson dog thanks to Operation Baghdad Pups. The guys over at TAH prove that underneath the tough exterior, they are sensitive, pro dog people.
Buster got the best gift of all this past Christmas – a forever home.

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know
evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog
on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back
in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–
it was peace.” – Milan Kundera

Yesterday while taking Tiny to her vet visit, I was introduced to this handsome fellow who was in dire need of a good home.
A good Samaritan rescued this lovable mug from certain death after being caught between lanes of a busy highway.
He had no collar, no microchip and no name. The staff at the vet’s office took to calling him “Mayo”. I’m not feeling that name and would like your help in choosing a name for this lucky fellow.
Meet Abby
Let me introduce my dear readers to the newest member of our family: Abby. She is a one year old Pit Bull Terrier rescue. She was adopted from P.A.W.S ( Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society). Her previous ‘owners’ disposed of her by literally tossing her over the fenced yard of P.A.W.S. and leaving this young dog to her fate.
Holding a leash in your hand makes her nervous, walking up and down stairs is a mystery to her, raising your voice sends her running to her crate, and reaching out to pet her on the head makes her crouch to the floor.
I believe her previous ‘owners’ were punks.
Someone’s idea of disposable trash now has a brighter future in her forever home.
Cutest Pom EVER…and other issues.
It is safe to say, my Poofy Dog is the cutest Pom in the world – way cuter than that polarbear named Flocke:
My, how my hydroponic garden grows. The photo taken was today – 02/23/2008. This garden was set up on 01/31/2008 with a defective lamp hood. The company, AeroGrow International, was quick to resolve the problem and send me a replacement lamp hood and extra lamps. The maintenance done so far – outside of changing the lamp hood – was to add more water and two nutrition tablets. Fresh herbs and vegetables on your countertop – a dream for inner city residents such as myself. I can’t wait for the plants to mature – I’ve got culinary plans for all them.
Kevin Ferris, editor of the editorial pages for the Philadelphia Inquirer, pens yet another fabulous edition to his Back Channels column. This is a must read, folks.

iRoomba, Do You?
Confession of a Woot addict:
I admit that I am a Woot addict, and have been one for quite some time and I’m not alone in this addiction. It is the first topic of conversation at the office, where my coworkers compare their latest purchases and speculate on when the next woot-off or bag-of-crap will occur on Woot.
Additionally, there is a unofficial competition at the office to collect the largest number of woot-shirts. There have been many nights when my alarm was set at 2 am to catch the latest woot shirt. Ah, the life of an addict…
My latest purchase is the iRobot Roomba 4296 Remote Schedular Robotic Vacuum. Woot claims its “low-profile design fits under beds, sofas, and other tight spots where conventional vacuums can’t reach“. It acts just like my precious Pomeranian, but with better results! Below is a photo of the Roomba that I snagged from Woot:
Below is a recent photo of Le Poofy Dog:
I look forward to the iRoomba vs Poofy Dog interaction!
Stay tuned for the video.
